Fabric Topology

Control Center -> Network -> Fabric Topology is a read-only whole-cluster network diagram - the spine switch, tenant routers/VPCs, guest-network segments, the VXLAN/EVPN overlay, and every compute host’s dataplane (NICs, bonds, bridges, VXLAN interfaces, VTEP), all in one view. It changes nothing - there is no Apply, Create, Edit, or Delete here; use SDN Fabric, Guest Network, or VPCs to change the fabric itself.

A summary bar across the top reads, for example 12 compute · 3 management · 5 segments · 4 VRs · 5 VNIs · 8/8 BGP · 214 routes. The BGP and routes pair is appended only when a live FRR summary is available; the counts before it are always shown.

Below it, horizontal bands appear only when they have something to draw: Spine (BGP-EVPN underlay), L3 / VR / VPC (tenant routers), Segments (one card per guest network - the guest L2 domains), EVPN overlay (VXLAN/VLAN chips), and Hosts (one column per compute node, fanning out into its NICs/bonds/bridges/VXLAN/VTEP). Colour encodes role and link state rather than a three-level health scale - the legend under the diagram reads Spine, VR / VPC, Segment, VTEP, NIC up, and down.

Step: Find Where a Guest Network Lives on the Fabric

When to Use: Confirm which hosts carry a guest network, or why a VM on it can’t reach a peer.

Steps:

  1. Open Control Center -> Network -> Fabric Topology.

  2. In the Segments band, click the card for the network (or its chip in EVPN overlay).

  3. Read the Placement map panel that opens: host count, segments, VM tap count.

  4. Expand a host section for the exact bridge/VXLAN/VTEP rows carrying it there.

Expected Outcome: The network and every host carrying it are highlighted, with a per-host breakdown in the Placement map.

If this fails:

  1. No dataplane to draw yet - no compute node has reported a dataplane (“Compute nodes will appear here once they report NICs, bonds, and bridges”); confirm nodes are onboarded and online.

  2. Failed to load fabric topology. - the view could not fetch its data at all, which is a different state from an empty cluster; refresh, then check node health on SDN Fabric.

  3. Network missing from Segments - it has no placement yet; provision a VM on it and reopen the page.

  4. A host shows the segment but its NIC/VTEP row is error - inspect that node on Network Topology.
